I have keynoted or otherwise spoken at literally hundreds of conferences around the world, spanning industry, analyst, vendor, and academic events. However, PTC—as both an organization and conference—is absolutely unique. At this point, like The Fast and the Furious series, it’s all about “family.” I look forward each year to both catching up on the latest trends and discontinuities from an ever-evolving distinguished set of global leaders, as well as catching up with friends and colleagues built over the decades. The former would take a long time to list, but highlights that immediately come to mind include 8K video, optical satellites, low-earth orbit satellites, SDN/NFV, white-space spectrum, humanitarian applications of IoT, and interplanetary Internet planning. The conference—now in its 40th year—continues to grow each year for a simple mathematical reason: anyone who has been to PTC comes back year after year; and there are always new members and conference attendees. So, I look forward to catching up with old industry colleagues and meeting new ones each year; it’s like an annual high school reunion, but with the senior global thought leaders who are ushering in the next generation of communications and digital transformation. It’s not people observing what’s happening; it’s the leaders that are making it happen.”
