Get an inside look at how Patrick Sullivan, leader of Verizon Partner Solutions International Sales, and his team are building tomorrow with the best of today around the globe.

Patrick leads the Verizon Partner Solutions International Sales organization working with global communication partners in optimizing business performance through core voice and data products, while increasing penetration of Verizon’s strategic product set, including connectivity layer solutions, wholesale enabled platforms, managed solutions, IoT, security, and professional services.

Patrick has 25 years of telecommunications experience, along with experience in finance, business development, carrier management, and sales, based out of the U.K., Japan, and now Hong Kong, where he has been based since 2008.

Patrick graduated with honors from Kingston University, is certified in management accounting, and has an MBA from London Business School.

How can telecommunications technologies help humanity?

Verizon has several initiatives focused on the environment. For example, Verizon continues to strengthen its commitment to sustainability and has set a goal to be carbon neutral by 2035. Some of the ways in this will be done is through a combination of reducing emissions, migrating energy procurement in favor of renewable and clean energy, and through the purchase of carbon offsets. Verizon has also adopted the recommendations of the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) and published its first report aligned with these guidelines.

 

Another item I can point out is that in February 2019, Verizon became the first U.S. telecom company to issue a green bond, raising almost USD 1 billion in net proceeds for renewable energy, energy efficiency, green buildings, and more. Verizon also committed to source or generate renewable energy equivalent to 50 percent of our total annual electricity consumption by 2025.

How can corporations and researchers best serve the next generation?

One of the things you hear from Verizon is that “we don’t wait for the future, we build it.” And, when you think about building the future, there are many components that must be considered in the planning – connectivity, speed, accuracy, security, capacity, and reliability – and as we continue to build the networks today that are moving the world forward, we must consider all of these elements along the way.

 

To best serve the next generation, corporations and researchers may start looking at IoT, digital transformation, customer experience, and virtual platforms like Verizon’s BlueJeans virtual meeting space. Verizon Partner Solutions has focused on supporting our customers’ business needs, in many areas such as these, by thinking about industry trends and what ways that trend information can help guide us in delivering the best experience to our customers globally.

What network-related development will have the greatest impact in our industry?

Well, there are multiple areas one thinks of when it comes to network-related impact that businesses should be paying attention to, but one in particular that Verizon Partner Solutions focused on is digital transformation. We are certainly aware of the significant change the industry has undergone as it relates to digital transformation, especially given what the world has gone through this year alone. For example, bandwidth, data, and security solution demands all shifted due to the increase of individuals working from home.

 

Additionally, the digital transformation program at Verizon Partner Solutions is focused on building out machine learning and artificial intelligence, and further developing automation capabilities across the organization, particularly with regard to how we can truly drive customer experience to new levels. The goal for Verizon Partner Solutions is a seamless, convenient, and real-time experience which has now been achieved through the use of simple tools like our Verizon Partner Solutions Exchange platform, which makes the online digital experience easier, faster, and more convenient, while improving the ease of doing business.

What value does PTC hold for you/your company?

PTC provides a great opportunity to engage with senior leaders across my international customer base in a positive environment that is conducive to networking and enhancing our strong partnerships as we embrace new technologies and partner for success to deliver the promise of the digital world.

What would you share with those interested in becoming a PTC Member?

I believe this is the premiere communications forum for Asia-Pacific as well as their global partners, with the PTC Annual Conference “on-site” location at the Hilton Hawaiian Village providing an excellent opportunity to optimize my time in meetings and networking. With all of our major Asia-Pacific partners in attendance, and at the start of the year, it is also a great opportunity to align on strategic objectives and partner for success in the coming year.

What advice would you share with current and future graduates interested in this field?

I feel incredibly fortunate to have chosen this industry many years ago, which has proven to be dynamic, energizing, and fundamental to the global economy and advancing society in general.

What is something that not that many people know about you?

I was born in Australia, brought up in England, and am married to a Dane with a daughter born in Japan and a son born in England. I love sports and travelling, have run marathons, jumped off of bridges (with a bungee cord), jumped out of planes (with a parachute), am qualified as a PADI dive instructor, and am slowly learning to play the guitar and improve at golf!
