MGC Technical Consulting Inc.

Founder and CEO of MGC Technical Consulting, Inc., Mike Carpenter is on a mission to connect the world so dreams become reality. He believes everyone should be informed, have an opinion, voice, and opportunity. After graduating from the University of Washington in 2005, Mike started MGC in 2008 to consult for school districts deploying WANs. His drive and passion for the telecom industry expanded to serve global telecom providers deploying long-haul, cell, microwave, enterprise, FTTH, and residential networks. Mike leads MGC by utilizing expert coaching; driving mission, vision, and values. These core principles help drive and define his business strategy.

How can telecommunications technologies help humanity?

The ever-improving speeds of data transfers provided by innovations in telecommunication technologies has allowed video conferencing to flourish in the telemedicine arena. This has promoted greater connection between physicians to better serve their patients in remote and underserved communities. These technologies enhance the ability of healthcare professionals to diagnose, treat, and monitor patients, while also providing access to information for individuals to take control of their health. As technology continues to advance, it will play an increasingly critical role in making healthcare more accessible for all.

If one thing should be redeveloped within the telecom and related industries, what should it be?

The most critical redevelopment needed within the telecom industry would be to prioritize universal access to high-speed internet connectivity. This would enable greater educational opportunities, improve access to healthcare, allow for a more diverse workforce, and enable third world populations to lift themselves out of poverty, ultimately leading to a more prosperous world for future generations.

Is it important for companies to continue to innovate their organization or offerings, and why?

Innovation isn’t just important; it’s absolutely essential for a business to succeed, as it directly impacts its organizational dynamics and offerings. The telecom industry is constantly evolving due to technological advancements, shifts in consumer behavior, and market trends. Companies that fail to innovate risk becoming obsolete as they cannot keep up with the changing demands. Every day brings new advancements that bring us closer to our goal of changing lives, so dreams become reality. Failing to act will only pave the way for someone else to do so.

What is something that not that many people know about you?

Many people do not know that I did not go to college for telecom or engineering. I went to college to study business and was not able to maintain a high enough GPA in my undergrad work to be accepted into business school. I was then intrigued by Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and received my BA in Geography from the University of Washington. Launched into the engineering world with GIS as my technical background, I had to self-teach myself AutoCAD. This transformed the way I interacted with data and helped me learn how to manipulate different geospatial datasets across various computer programs.
