PTC Distinguished Service Award
PTC established the Richard J. Barber PTC Distinguished Service Award to recognize the value of a member, staff person, or volunteer who has provided exceptional service to PTC over a significant period of time.
The award is named in honor of Richard J. Barber (1936–2014), PTC’s founding executive director.
Previous award recipients include Richard Taylor, William (Bill) Barney, Dick Barber, Bruce Drake, Chris Vonwiller, Meheroo Jussawalla, Dan J. Wedemeyer, Sharon Nakama, Robert Walp, Tara Giunta, John Hibbard, Klaus Gueldenpfennig, Tim Logue, Mark Hukill, Heather Hudson, and Dr. Elizabeth Fife.

- Only PTC Members may make a nomination, but the nominee does not need to be a PTC Member.
- The Award will be given annually if there is a suitable candidate. If no nominees meet the award criteria, an award will not be made for that year.
- The winner may be a current or former staff member of PTC, or a current or former member of PTC, or vounteer over a signifcant period of time.
- No monetary award is involved.
- A certifcate and appropriate gift, such as a trophy bowl, will be presented to the winner.
- The winner will be recognized at the annual conference. (Note: Recipient is responsible for travel expenses.)
- The individual will have provided meritorious service and demonstrated leadership by contributing to the ongoing development of the organization over a significant time period.
- Qualifying service could include contributions as a staff member, Board Member, Advisory Council Member, or otherwise as a PTC Member or volunteer contributing to the activities of PTC, including contributing to the development or monitoring of programs.
- Nominations should provide documentation of the nominee’s service to the organization, and the time period over which the contributions were made.
Nomination Review Process
All nominations undergo a meticulous review process by the PTC Honors Committee, which then presents their recommendations to PTC’s Board of Governors for final approval.
The chosen awardee will be announced during the awards ceremony at PTC’s Annual Conference in Honolulu, Hawaii.
2024 AWARD RECIPIENT
At PTC’24, PTC presented the 2024 Richard J. Barber PTC Distinguished Service Award to Richard Taylor. Since his first involvement with PTC in 1992, Dr. Taylor has provided leadership and service in many important roles, including as a member of the research committee, frequent member of the PTC Advisory Council, and ultimately, president and chair of the PTC Board of Governors (2012-2014).

2021 Award Recipient
The 2021 Richard J. Barber PTC Distinguished Service Award will be presented during PTC’21: New Realities in January 2021.
The award includes high-profile recognition at PTC’s Annual Conference along with a certificate and gift.

PTC Members are encouraged to nominate a fellow member, staff person, or volunteer for this prestigious award.

Nomination Review Process
