Dear PTC’17 Attendees,
Aloha and Welcome to all our PTC members!
PTC’16 challenged us to Reimagine Telecoms by rethinking strategies and possibilities in our modern telecommunications ecosystem. PTC’17 takes this idea one step further by not only reimagining possibilities, but understanding the inevitable Changing Realities of the future.
The global landscape is rapidly evolving with the emergence of new technologies, new business & customer needs, and new business models. In particular, the telecommunications industry continues to play an integral part in driving growth, innovation, and momentum around key trends such as 5G mobile, Big Data, Internet of Things (IoT) and Internet of Everything (IoE), cloud computing, video streaming, mobile payments, and driverless cars. While the changing future for telco will certainly bring new challenges, it will also create plenty of growth opportunities. For that reason, it is imperative that we embrace these changes and stay at the forefront of innovations, which is something that the Pacific Telecommunications Council has continually advocated and demonstrated.
With great innovations also comes more diversity which brings tremendous value to the PTC. In recent years, the PTC’s annual conference has evolved from being telco-centric to encompassing more diversity across all fields than ever before, especially with the representation of more application-based companies. This is indicative of the ever more connected world we live in as digitization continues to impact and transform every aspect of business.
I encourage all of us to take advantage of the diverse ecosystem that PTC’17 will bring together by openly sharing ideas and experiences, brainstorming together on how to solve problems within telecommunications, and always keeping an open mind. Change is never easy, however I look forward to facing the inevitable Changing Realities with all of you, leveraging the power of this vital community in order to adapt and become stronger in our professional endeavors.
The PTC remains the leading professional organization for telecommunications and information and communication technology (ICT) professionals with interests in the Asia-Pacific region. We truly couldn’t be where we are today without the enthusiastic support we receive from our members year after year and it’s our mission to reflect their best interests. Additionally, a pillar of PTC’s mission is in promoting the advancement of ICT to benefit not only its members but the people of the entire Pacific region. An example of how we’re doing this is in continuing the Spectrum Futures conference which seeks to “connect the unconnected” within the wireless space. There are approximately 2 billion people in the region who don’t have access to the Internet and we are seeking to help change that. I look forward to the continuation and growth of this initiative.
The annual PTC conference is made possible by the generosity of our sponsors and the exceptional efforts of a dedicated and talented group of people. Thank you to everyone who has helped with the production of such an impressive event. A sincere thank you goes out to our CEO, Sharon Nakama, and her team who are committed year-round to executing the PTC’s missions and goals in addition to producing the annual event.
I look forward to kicking off 2017 at this year’s conference by embracing endless opportunities, engaging in thought-provoking discussions, gaining a healthy dose of inspiration, and advancing our collective mission and vision into the bright future.
Aloha,
ANTHONY ROSSABI
